Most breeding results are ordinary table lookups. Two cases need extra explanation: some targets can only be produced from their own species, and Katress + Wixen is the one pairing where swapping parent genders changes the child.

“Self-only” has a narrow, testable meaning here: the target has exactly one direct parent pair in the current table, and both parents are that same species. It does not mean the Pal is unavailable elsewhere in the game. It means breeding cannot create your first one from two different species.

For ordinary pairs, the parents only need compatible genders; which species is female does not change the result. The current data contains one exception, represented by these two directional outcomes.

Same species breed true
In the shipped roster, all 287 breedable Pals return their own species when paired with the same species. This is why a self-only target can still be reproduced after you obtain a compatible pair.
